GAME PREVIEW

10/4 Auburn Tigers

It’s time to head to the Plains, and the cries of “War Eagle!”. Let’s just hope the fans get to holler it too much. This is a reunion of two schools which once was one of the hottest rivalries in the conference. Of course, that changed in 1992, with the implementing of the divisional format. Still, there’s a special feel in the air when the Vols and the Tigers meet.

Auburn had been the preseason darling of the media, with The Sporting News picking them to win the national title. However, the shutout which the USC Trojans delivered at Jordan Hare Stadium brought that dream from the clouds back to harsh reality. Coach Tommy Tuberville has an impressive offense, when it is clicking, and HB Carnell “Cadillac” Williams could easily be a Heisman Trophy candidate this year. Defensively, Auburn is a young bunch, and a seasoned Vols offense could easily make this game a shooting match, lobbing bombs left and right. Such remains to be seen. One thing for sure - you can count on this to be a hard fought contest, and whoever comes out victorious will put a huge “W” on the roadmap to Atlanta!

Auburn’s 2002 record 9-4 (5-3 in the SEC)
