Air Force Academy Falcons vs. Tennessee Vols Football Game Preview

The second of four consecutive home games to start the '06 campaign (Florida and Marshal being the other two contests), the Volunteers meet a foe that once was nationally ranked, but in recent years, has fallen on lean time - the Falcons of the Air Force Academy. AFA finished 7th in the Mountain West conference, with a 4 - 7 record, and, like California, they are not too well known in the corridors of SEC football. Unlike Cal, the Big Orange could, and should, take a victory from this contest, which serves as a warm up to the 9/16 game against the hated Florida Gators.

From last year's stats, the Falcons' offense to be pass orinted, with their leading carrier only amassing 710 yards in 11 games (QB Shaun Carney), while their leading receiver, senior Jason Brown, rolled up 874 yards in 11 games. Defensively, for the season, the team total for intereception was a lowly 10, and just as lowly, 13 sacks for the '05 season. The Vols player to watch in this game, likely, will be senior kicker James Wilhoit, as you figure coach Fulmer will play plenty of his reserves, and will do his best not to run up the score, unlike the fellow who now resides at the University of South Carolina, Mr. Spurrier. Enjoy this one Big Orange fans!!
